Many people ask us for advice about "the best containers for making
compost", and there are 3 main options:-
|

| Lead Mould in a Builder's Sack - fill it with fallen
leaves, then add plastic sacks full of leaves as the level
sinks |
Compost in a Builder's Sack - fill it with compost,
cover with an old carpet, and leave till it's ready (may dry
out more easily !) |
Plastic Compost Bin - fill with materials, then cover
the compost inside the bin with bubblewrap or old carpet -
this helps to insulate and build up temperatures |
"Traditional" Compost Bin - in this case
made of old doors and pallets. Cover the compost with a carpet
or bubblewrap. Check if it needs watering, or if rodents get
in |
|
Epsom and Ewell Borough Council Residents can buy subsidised plastic
compost bins - phone 0845 073 2002. A 300 litre bin (about the size of
the one in the photo) costs £5, and a hexagonal modular 700 liter
bin costs £15
